Hill's Science Plan Hypoallergenic Adult Cat Food | Egg & Insect Protein | No Grain | 1.5kg

Hill's Science Plan Hypoallergenic Adult is a complete dry food for adult cats aged 1 to 6 years, formulated for cats with delicate skin and stomach using a limited number of high quality novel protein sources and no grain.

For cats with food sensitivities, the protein source in their diet matters enormously. This formula uses just two intact animal protein sources; high quality egg and insect protein; significantly reducing the number of potential dietary triggers compared to a standard multi-protein recipe. Easily digestible ingredients including dried potatoes and egg make this gentle on even the most sensitive digestive systems.

Made with 100% cage-free eggs or egg derivatives. Omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids support healthy skin and a soft coat, addressing the skin-side symptoms that often accompany food sensitivity in cats. This is a complete and balanced dry food requiring no supplementation.

Why does Hill's Science Plan Hypoallergenic use egg and insect protein?
Egg and insect protein are classified as novel proteins; protein sources that most cats have not been previously exposed to in their diet. This is important for cats with food sensitivities because reactions to food proteins are driven by the immune system's prior exposure to specific proteins. By using proteins the cat's immune system has not been sensitised to, the formula significantly reduces the likelihood of triggering a sensitivity response. Egg is also one of the most digestible protein sources available, making it gentle on sensitive digestive systems.

Is Hill's Science Plan Hypoallergenic suitable for all adult cats or only those with diagnosed allergies?
The food is formulated for adult cats aged 1 to 6 years with delicate skin and stomach. It is appropriate both for cats with a confirmed food sensitivity or allergy and for owners who want a proactive, gentle diet for a cat that shows signs of digestive sensitivity or skin issues without a formal diagnosis. However if your cat has severe or worsening symptoms, it is always worth speaking to your vet before changing their diet, as food sensitivity can sometimes be difficult to distinguish from other conditions without professional assessment.

How long does it take to see results when switching to a hypoallergenic diet?
Dietary elimination trials typically take 8 to 12 weeks to show clear results, as it takes time for any previous dietary triggers to clear the system and for the immune response to settle. When transitioning, mix increasing amounts of the new food with decreasing amounts of the old food over a 7-day period to minimise any digestive disruption during the switch. Consistency is important; for the trial to be meaningful, the cat should eat only this food and nothing else; no treats, no table scraps and no other foods.

Does this food contain any grains?
No; the formula is completely grain-free with no wheat, corn or other grains in the composition. The carbohydrate sources used are dried potatoes and potato starch, which are well tolerated by most cats including those with grain sensitivities. The grain-free formulation also removes one of the most commonly cited dietary triggers for cats with food sensitivities, making it a cleaner and more targeted option for managing dietary reactions.
